In this episode, we finally get the scandalous details of the Knave of Hearts past. The Knave of Hearts is actually named Will. He was a member of Robin Hood’s band of Merry Men. In fact, Will completes a heist with Robin Hood of Maleficent’s castle. However, Robin Hood warns Will not to thieve for personal gain, but Will cannot resist stealing a looking glass while at Maleficent’s. More on that later.

In Wonderland, the Knave/Will is wanted for thievery and public nakedness (although the nakedness is not his fault). Alice has decided that the best way to find out who took the bottle is to find the Forget-Me-Knot, a magic hoop that will show the last thing that happened at that location when one looks through it. The Knave takes Alice to the caterpillar, the last “person” known to have the Forget-Me-Knot. The caterpillar sends them to the Grendel to reclaim the knot, which was stolen from him, in exchange for clearing the Knave’s debt to the caterpillar.

Meanwhile, Jafar and The Red Queen have decided to send the Bandersnatch after Alice to force her to use her wishes. Alice and the Knave arrive at Grendel’s house only to be captured by the disfigured creature. The Grendel has been using the Forget-Me-Knot to view his dead wife. Just as Alice and the Knave finally escape, the Bandersnatch comes barreling through the Grendel’s house. The Knave saves the Grendel by killing the Bandersnatch, but the Forget-Me-Knot now shows Alice and the Knave because they were the last people in that corner of his house. Since the Forget-Me-Knot no longer works for the Grendel, he gives it to Alice.

Alice and the Knave are able to use the Forget-Me-Knot to reveal that it was the white rabbit who dug up Cyrus’s bottle and gave it to the Red Queen. The Knave then burns the knot to prove that he as “a shred of humanity left.” That means that he is still in debt to the caterpillar.

Jafar and the Red Queen go to the Grendel to find out what Alice and the Knave were doing there. We find out that the Grendel was once in love and it was the Red Queen that disfigured him. The Grendel tells them everything in exchange for his wife back, but the Red Queen kills him instead.

In the final twist of the episode, Will stole the looking glass from Maleficent so that he could escape the Enchanted Forest with his true love. However, that true love is actually the Red Queen. Anastasia (the Red Queen’s real name) and Will escape to Wonderland through the looking glass.
