Prince Harry is embarking on a 208 mile trek across the Antarctic Plateau with the Walking with the Wounded expedition. Three teams competing to race to the South Pole were scheduled to set off on their journey yesterday, but were postponed due to severe weather conditions.
On the Antarctic expedition the teams will be exposed to freezing temperatures as low as -58 degrees F (-50C) according to ABC News.
Despite the extremity of Prince Harry’s newest venture he managed to maintain a sunny, humorous disposition. In an interview with BBC the Prince joked that his older brother William was jealous of his arctic journey, stating, "My brother, I think he's just quite jealous I managed to get away from a screaming child."
Prince Harry is no newbie to frozen adventures. In 2011, he participated in a similar expedition to the North Pole. During his interview, the Prince shared his father’s concern for his safety during his dangerous trek reports E! Online.
"My father was a little bit concerned, I obviously tried to keep him calm by saying the North Pole was the dangerous one because we were walking on frozen ocean, whereas this time, yes, there's crevasses, but hopefully the guys will take us around that.”
Prince Harry’s adventure across the arctic is scheduled to depart on November 30th and finish by December 16th. The teams are expected to travel an estimated 10 miles per day in order to fulfill their prospective goals.
