Russell Brand was denied entry into South Africa on Friday. He was scheduled to be there for a stand-up show in Johannesburg for his Messiah Complex World Tour.

He announced on Twitter that the show was canceled, never citing reasons for his failed attempt at entering the country. He did note that he’s trying to “resolve” the situation.

“Tonight's J-burg show cancelled. SA authorities REFUSE TO LET ME INTO YOUR COUNTRY. Trying to resolve it. #MessiahComplex,” he wrote.

When a fan tweeted him, You said Messiah. Our idiotic government equates that with the Dalai Lama (he couldn't get in either),” he responded, “#flatteringban.”

Brand has scheduled stand-up dates over the weekend at the Montecasino Theatre as well as in Cape Town on Tuesday, Hollywood.com notes. No word yet on if those dates will have to be canceled as well.

According to The Raw Story, Brand was denied leaving London because he didn’t have any open pages in his passport, his publicist Debra de Souza said.
