Russell Westbrook came back from his knee injury much earlier than expected, and he looked great.
Westbrook finished with 21 points and seven assists as the Thunder beat the Suns 103-96. It was a sloppy shooting night for OKC as they went 2 for 18 from three, according to NY Times. With the help of their apparently fast-healing, All-Star point guard they got the job done regardless.
"Rehab is a tough process," Westbrook said. "I'm going to continue to rehab throughout the season, before the game, whatever I need to do to stay healthy throughout the year. It's a tough process, but I'm thankful for everybody that supported me throughout the process.
Kevin Durant had a double double with 33 points and 10 rebounds. OKC improves to 2-1 in their home opener and hand the Suns (2-1) their first loss.
Westbrook may have rushed the healing process a little after tearing his meniscus during last year’s playoffs, as ESPN reports that he was scheduled to be out four to six weeks.
“I just missed some easy ones but that will come,” he said. “I’m able to do what I want. I could be better but that’s all right. That’s expected. I’m not expected to come back and be bionic man. I’m just going to work my way through it.”
