Catherine Middleton and Prince William may have married more than two and a half years ago, but that doesn't mean the Royal Wedding buzz is over. People are still going nuts for Will and Kate.

During Julien Auctions' "Icons and Idols: Hollywood" auction on November 9-10 in Beverly Hills, a slice of the royal couple's wedding cake was sold for $4,160. While a representative of the auction house confirmed the amount of the winning bid, the buyer's name was kept confidential.

Although it's doubtful that the buyer plans to eat his or her expensive purchase, apparently the cake is still as edible as ever. Fiona Cairns, the baker of the royal wedding confection, told Hello!, "It's always been a tradition and that's why the cake was fruitcake, because after 30 months, it's even more delicious."

According to E! Online, the eight-tier cake contained raisins, walnuts, cherries, lemon, grated orange and French brandy.

The Daily Beast states that it's a mystery as to how the cake got up on the auction block in the first place. One hypothesis is that a wedding guest managed to sneak an extra helping past the Palace guards.

Comparatively, a piece of wedding cake from Queen Elizabeth II's 1947 wedding to Prince Phillip was put on sale for ₤1,200 (approximately $1,933) earlier this year in July. That slice of cake, however, wasn't as well preserved as Kate and Will's. According to The Daily Mail, a charity worker discovered the long lost slice in a filing cabinet drawer in 2011 (64 years post-wedding!). The auctioneer at Christie's, Charlotte George, was quoted as saying, "Remarkably, it is still in one piece, wrapped in baking parchment. I wouldn’t recommend eating it—but as a collector’s item it is fantastic."

Few could put it better than Charlotte George did when she said that these odd and fascinating royal cake auctions allow individuals a chance at owning a (literal) "slice of history."
