Terence Howard played friend James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the first Iron Man movie but when it came time for the second installment, a move that surprised many, he was replaced by Don Cheadle. Now coming forward, Howard is blaming star Robert Downey, Jr. for being replaced.
On Bravo TV’s Watch What Happens Live show, Howard initially was on to promote his new movie The Best Man Holiday but a caller asked the question, “Why didn’t you come back to Iron Man?” Admitting that the truthful answer would get him in trouble, he, calmly and diplomatically, answered that his “friend”, referring to Robert Downey, Jr., who Howard helped get the job in the first place, pushed him out.
The New York Daily News reported Howard was offered only an 1/8th of the salary for the next Iron Man movie. Howard stated that he tried to call his “friend”, but didn’t receive a call back for three months.
In the video Howard also explains that he was contracted to do 3 films, and understood the pay cut the producers offered, as a “we can make this with or without and still be successful.”
Host Andy Cohen asked where does Howard stand now with Downey; “Oh, I love him. God is going to bless him.”
Howard’s new movie The Best Man Holiday is in theaters now.
