Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak knelt down and collapsed on the field as the team hit the locker room at halftime of Sunday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
According to ESPN, Kubiak was rushed to a local hospital on a stretcher in an ambulance. Although it is unknown what the problem was, the team confirmed that Kubiak was conscious and it was not a heart attack.
“He had an episode, he was light-headed and dizzy,” Texans general manager Rick Smith said of the 52-year-old after the game, reports the Associated Press. “He was evaluated by a number of specialists ... he is awake and coherent.”
Smith continued, hopeful for Kubiak's quick recovery, “He went to a knee, and they laid him on the ground. He is stable; for precautionary reasons we wanted to get him to the hospital. We have to assess ... obviously, there’s a lot of info. Hopefully, Gary will be back with us tomorrow.”
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips stepped in for Kubiak as the interim head coach for the remainder of the game. The Texans fell to the Colts, 24-27.
