Houston Texans running back Arian Foster faces surgery this week to repair a ruptured disk in his back, which will render him out for the season.
According to USA Today, Foster was first injured in training camp, but a source reported that the back condition flared up again recently.
In last week's 24-27 loss against the Indianapolis Colts, Foster played two snaps and then was taken out of the game, injured. He hasn't practiced all week. The Associated Press reports that the 27-year-old running back has also been battling a hamstring problem, and missed most of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs the week before as well.
The Texans have had a rough season when it comes to keeping their players and coaches healthy. Head coach Gary Kubiak suffered a mini-stroke at half time during the Indianapolis game, while linebacker Brian Cushing is out on a knee injury.
The Texans entered their match up against Arizona Sunday with a record of 2-6.
