On this week’s episode of Preachers of L.A: Ron Gibson gets his sister help, Deitrick Haddon and Dominique marry, and more insight is given into the threats against McClendon.
Deitrick Haddon: Deitrick has stressed on numerous occasions that he does not like being away from his fiancée Dominique or his daughter Destin, “Living apart from my family has been hard.” When he goes to pick up his daughter from Faye, he tells her that he bought a house for Dominique and him to live in. “After marriage, right?” Faye asked him and he agreed, but wasn’t implying that it would happen after the marriage.
Deitrick shows Dominique and Destin the house, which has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a huge walk in closet for the woman of the house, why, because “You deserve this when you work hard for the kingdom,” Haddon said. His fiancée loved the house, especially the walk in closet, “This house is gorgeous. It’s absolutely perfect for our family.”
Deitrick wants to elope, “I think we should get married right now.” He knows that they did things out of order, but he believes God has blessed them out of order. He doesn’t want to be in that big house alone. While Dominique agrees, she doesn’t want people to judge her like they did when she was pregnant; she even lost friends due to the situation. She decides to push her fears aside and agrees to secretly elope with him.
Haddon invites his brother David to come with him to look at suits for the official wedding, which is a month away. When he shares his plan to elope, but still do an official wedding his brother seems on the fence. He asked him, “Why don’t you just push up the date?” David reminded Deitrick that he is a pastor and his actions could be frowned upon, but Haddon doesn’t want to hear it, “When you love someone you outta be with that person.”
Haddon did not tell his parents about his idea to elope because he knew they would not agree with it and probably not show up to the official wedding.
However, he does want Faye to be aware of the fact that the two will be eloping and using her house as the place to elope. The couple decides to bring Faye to the new house and tell her the news. Faye is hesitant, but eventually agrees. Later on, the two have an impromptu wedding in her backyard. Since there were no rings, the couple used string and tied it on each other’s ring finger.
Ron Gibson: Ron’s sister, Shaun, has been addicted to Heroin for 32 years. He goes with his wife to talk to his sister and mother about getting Shaun clean and sober. While strategizing how to rescue his sister, from a drug house in Compton, Gibson begins to blame himself for her addiction. “I think the addiction of Shaun and my other siblings started from my addiction.” He knows that going to Compton to rescue his sister will be dangerous because the people in the house carry guns. However, he is determined to rescue his sister because he “can’t allow his sister to die.”
Gibson is hesitant because, he has his wife and sister with him; he knows the original gangstas, but not the young ones who would “kill their own mother.” Luckily, he is able to rescue his sister, but notices that she is fidgety and “scared as can be.” He knows she is scared that someone may follow her and bring her back to the drug house, “I just want to get her to a safe place just to talk to her.”
They take Shaun to a restaurant, but she’s on her phone talking to someone. When they sit down to eat, an unknown man comes to Shaun and begins talking to her. Whether the guy is the person Shaun was talking to, no one knows, but Gibson is upset. “I’m not going to sit there and let him pit some poison back in my sister.” He knows he got his sister physically away from the place of her addicted, but he knows mentally she is still there. He whispers something to the man and he leaves. While he talks to his sister, he gets a mirror image of what he must have looked like when he was a drug addict, although he can relate to that life and dedicates himself to helping people who are on the wrong path he wonders, “How can I help other people and not my family.”
Shaun is checked into Shield for Families, as a step to get away from bad influence and to get her healed. During a sermon he tells his congregation about his sister’s situation because he feels everyone has someone in their family suffering from some form of addiction and they need to know that there is always hope.
Clarence McClendon: Derrick Watkins more known as Fonzworth Bentley met with McClendon to talk. Watkins talked about the pressures of a new family; he has a five week old daughter, and constantly traveling. While sympathizing with Watkins because he also does a lot of traveling; McClendon mentioned the situation of his family being threatened and stalked, which makes him fear for himself and his family. McClendon held a meeting to talk to his internal committee. He mentioned an incident where one man came to his church with a gun, another time someone got passed his security where only personnel was authorized to be, while claiming to be his family member. “I want to know how this person got pass security.” Neither of the men in attendance could explain how it happened, which did not sit well with the bishop. “They got close enough that if they wanted to do me harm, they could have.” The men assured him that they were looking into the situation. McClendon knows that people judge him for having body guards around him, but he doesn’t not care because he will do what is necessary to “protect my family.”
