Last night on The Voice Team Adam and Team Blake took to the stage to perform, tonight the focuses shift to Team Christina and Team Cee Lo. The results show will air on Thursday this week. These contestants have been through the blind auditions, the battle rounds and the knockout rounds in order and have now made it to the live show stage. Only three artists from each team can move forward.
A Great Big World took the stage to open the show; Christina Aguilera accompanied the band. The collaboration sang, “Say Something.”
Team Cee Lo took to the stage first. First up representing Cee Lo was Amber Nicole. Nicole took on “Wasting All These Tears,” which was originally performed by Cassadee Pope who won season three of The Voice. Levine started off the judges’ comments by saying that Green really took this performance in another direction and that Nicole was under on some of the notes. Shelton, who coached Pope in season three, said that Nicole did a good job but he agreed with Levine that some of the major notes went under. Green added that he did plan on challenging Nicole and that she rose to the challenge.
Following Nicole was Johnny Gray. Gray performed, “Bittersweet Symphony,” by the Verve. Aguilera said that the performance was accurate and that Gray really was great with his tone. Green said that audience would really be able to connect with Gray.
Tamara Chauniece took the stage next representing Team Cee Lo. Chauniece put her own original spin on “I Will Survive.” Levine started off the judges’ comments by saying that it was a strong performance. Shelton added by saying that Chauniece looked beautiful and that she performed the song great. Coach Green added that Chauniece did a wonderful job and this is another chance for music education to a younger audience.
Following Chauniece was Kat Robichaud. Robichaud performed, “She Keeps Me Warm,” which was original performed by Mary Lambert. Music fans will recognize this song from the chorus us, “Same Love,” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Robichaud ended her performance by hugging a random audience member. Levine said that the performance was awesome. Aguilera added that she wanted a little bit more from Robichaud. Green said that unconditional love could be seen coming from Robichaud and that he wanted the audience to see the whole Robichaud.
The final performance from Team Cee Lo was Caroline Pennell. Pennell put her own twist on The White Stripes, “We’re Going To Be Friends.” Levine started off the comments by saying for the first time since the show started he really heard Pennell’s voice. Shelton added that Pennell’s voice is memorizing, along with a few other very off the wall comments. Coach Green added that the audience could connect with Pennell instantly and that performance had the right combination of everything.
Team Christina took the stage next. Josh Logan took the stage first representing Team Christina. Logan took on “Crazy,” which is originally performed by Coach Cee Lo Green. Green commented on the performance by saying that he is honored that his song would mean someone to anyone and that Logan did a great job with it. Levine added that he has enjoyed watching Logan changed and grown during the competition. Coach Aguilera said that the performance was original and that Logan is a skilled vocalist.
Following Logan was Olivia Henken from Team Christina. Henken put her own country twist on Katy Perry’s latest chart topping hit, “Roar.” Shelton said that he was very surprised how well a country voice worked on the Perry track. Aguilera said it is really hard to recreate a pop song and that Henken did accomplish that with this performance.
Next up to The Voice stage was Stephanie Anne Johnson. Johnson will be performing, “Georgia On My Mind.” Green added that he had mixed emotions, that he was amazed, jealous and all across the board with his feelings. Levine added that he liked the performance. Aguilera added that Johnson has richness and tone to her voice that is provides a very solid performance.
Matthew Schuler followed Johnson and had the most shocking song choice of the night. Schuler put his own twist on “Wrecking Ball,” by Miley Cryus. It was hard to hear the coaches’ comments over the screaming of the audience, Green started the comments off by saying he hates how much he loves Schuler. Levine said that he shared Green’s pain. Aguilera said that is was a great song choice and that Schuler smashed the performance.
Closing the second night of The Voice live shows was Jacquie Lee, the youngest member of the competition. Lee sang, “I Put A Spell On You.” Once again, it was hard to hear the coaches over the screaming of the audience. Green simply said, “Damn” and that Lee’s performance was the absolute best. Levine said that the emotion, connection and the performance was crazy. Aguilera said that she is so proud to be Lee’s coach.
