Tiger Woods can check off another achievement in the story book of his career. On Tuesday, the world renowned golfer drove golf balls from the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul, Turkey into Asia, being the first golfer to do so.
Woods was in Turkey for his first event in six weeks at the Turkish Airlines Open, according to Yahoo Sports.
“To be the first golfer to do this was very cool,” Said Woods.
“I have really enjoyed my visit to Istanbul. To see the Bosphorus for the first time was a very enjoyable and memorable experience.”
The bridge is 210 feet over the Bosphorus river and 5,118 feet long, making it the fourth longest suspension bridge. Half of the six-lane bridge was closed off for Tiger and ESPN reports that 180,000 drivers cross the bridge each day.
Minister of Turkey Omer Celik said, “It was an honour to welcome Tiger to Istanbul. It demonstrates Turkey’s ability to attract and host the biggest names in world sport and we are certain he will enjoy his week."
The Turkish Airlines Open begins Thursday and Woods will be the only non-European in the tournament.
