He may be the villain, but he’s not a bad guy! Actor Tom Hiddleston made a surprise appearance on Halloween night at a charity screening of his new film Thor: the Dark World.
Hiddleston, who plays Thor’s mischievous adopted brother Loki in the sequel to 2011’s Thor, flew in all the way from London on Thursday to appear at a screening of the new film. According to the New York Daily News, the 32-year-old actor surprised the kids to thank Variety the Children’s Charity of New York and The Children’s Aid Society for the work they do with the city’s kids.
The screening, which was co-hosted by Disney, Marvel Studios and the Daily News, reportedly took place at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square. Hiddleston showed up before the movie to not only thank the charities, but to spend some time with his young fans as well.
He arrived in New York only two hours before the event began, specifically for the event, according to E! News. Hiddleston was enthusiastic throughout.
“I am Loki and I am filled with glorious purpose,” Hiddleston growled at the crowd as he stood in front of them before the film, channeling his inner Loki. He then sat and chatted with his young fans before the film began.
After the film, Hiddleston seemed just as excited as when he had arrived.
“It was amazing,” he told the Daily News in an interview. “I just landed from London at 4 p.m. and to sort of come through the airport, throw on some clothes and come into that response where there were just 300 kids so excited to be there.”
“To see that enthusiasm, to see them clap and cheer, wearing Loki T-shirts and swinging hammers, that was really gratifying.”
Hiddleston is known for his work with the charity UNICEF. Earlier this year, he took a trip with the charity to Africa and later participated in the “Live Below the Line” event, during which he spent five days living on food and drink that cost him about a pound a day to raise money for UNICEF.
“I believe so strongly in their work,” he told the Daily News. “There are armies of people behind the scenes who do tireless work on behalf of children all over the world.”
“So it’s nothing for me to turn up and introduce a screening for them. I hope it’s a nice reward.”
Very nice of Hiddleston, indeed!
Thor: the Dark World, which also stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, will be released in the US on November 8.
