The popular film Ghost is going to be adapted to be a television show. When Ghost first came out, it made the song “Unchained Melody” become an instant hit, it was practically the song’s theme song. Now that the film is going to be a television show, it is going to need a new theme song. It needs to be fresh. I have some ideas.
In case you forgot, Ghost was a 1990 film that starred Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. In the film, Swayze played Sam who was murdered. Sam’s ghost then goes to Oda Mae (Goldberg) to get her to communicate with his fiancée, Molly (Moore), so they can find the man that murdered him.
There is a famous scene in the movie in which Molly is doing pottery and Sam is behind her and they are making the ugliest/most romantic pot in the world. What made the scene so memorable is the beautiful song in the background.
Now, how do you top that romantic scene? You can’t use the same song. You have to find something new. The new theme song, however, needs to not only match the tone of the new show but must also relate back to the original film. Theme songs are serious business. If you choose the wrong song, your entire show could fail.
Below are five options for theme songs.
5. ”Hovering,” Miley Cyrus
It is a well-known fact that all ghosts hover, right? Therefore Miley Cyrus’s “Hovering” fits the bill for the perfect theme song. It isn’t popular and it is indie enough that the show won’t look like it is selling out to get cheap views.
4. ”Bye Bye Bye,” *NSYNC
Since the show is based off the movie, somebody is probably going to be a ghost. To be a ghost, you have to die. And when people die we say… “Bye Bye Bye.”
3. ”Viva La Vida,” Coldplay
The direct translation of “Viva La Vida” is “Life the Life.” I know, why would a TV show about a ghost want a theme song about life? Irony. Having a theme song about life could get the hopes up for the audience- only to find out that the ghost dies.
2. ”U Can’t Touch This,” MC Hammer
I’ve not met many ghosts, but from what I understand, they can’t touch anything. So, every second of their (after)life would simply be not touching anything. “U Can’t Touch This” would be the perfect theme song and it could lighten the mood whenever the ghost awkwardly can’t touch anything. It could be a joking phrase- the endless marketing would be amazing.
1. ”We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” Taylor Swift
When your boyfriend is a ghost, I’d guess that your break up is permanent. This Taylor Swift song is perfect for the television show. I know that “We Are Never Ever Get Together” may seem bit too silly for the drama but the song exactly what the widow knows.
What do you think would be a good theme song?
