Based on the wait for a table on the weekends I know I am not alone when I say that Winnie's Le Bus Restaurant is the place to go for Brunch this side of center city. Known throughout Philadelphia for their breads, the original Le Bus is now an artisan bakery, and their breads can still be found in the (practically famous) bread basket served at Winnies.

Winnie and her husband took over the Manayunk outpost of Le Bus in 2003 and have been continuously working to make it their own over the past decade. Specializing in an eclectic American comfort food menu, with locally sourced ingredients and fresh healthy options, there is something for everyone.

My sister-in-law and I recently had a weeknight meal out at Winnie's and were pleasantly surprised by the cocktail selection. In addition to an extensive beer and wine list, the cocktail list changes seasonally. If you are like me and will try anything pumpkin flavored, then the pumpkin infused vodka is not to be missed. Surprisingly smooth and drinkable, this is a drink I will absolutely go back for- I have never had anything quite like it! The Harvest Sangria, made with local apples and cranberries, was festive and tasty and a unique fall twist on a favorite cocktail.

For dinner we started with the lobster mac and cheese and all I can say is thank goodness we were sharing! This dish is so decadent- the perfect blend of creamy and cheesy, yet crunchy with the panko crust- it is the ultimate comfort food. I have tried many variations of this dish throughout the city and I can say with confidence this ranks right up there with some of the best I've had.

The butternut squash risotto is the perfect fall dish, comforting, yet packed with veggies and flavor. If you are looking for something a little lighter, the brown rice and nut salad is full of flavor and is a dish I often stop by for- since it is also available on their convenient pre-packaged lunch takeout section.

And of course, Mom's Famous Meatloaf has been a lebus staple since 1978 and remains on the menu today, even with the new owners. Why change what works!

The service is casual yet friendly, our server was happy to make suggestions and followed up to be sure we were happy with how he steered us. We shared our entree and he brought them on two plates, without us even asking.

Winnie's also has a burgeoning catering business, so something to keep in mind the next time you are looking for a uniquely Philadelphia flavor for your own party.

Winnie's Le Bus remains a Manayunk institution and with its inviting horseshoe shaped bar, and open, yet warm dining room, this is your quintessential neighborhood bar and grill. While brunch may be what Winnies is most well known for, their dinner and bar menu makes it an equally appealing destination for a family meal, romantic dinner, or girl's night out.
