George Zimmerman is in a Florida jail cell, waiting to appear before a judge on Tuesday afternoon after his girlfriend notified police that he pointed a shotgun at her during a verbal dispute on Monday afternoon.
Zimmerman’s girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe was recorded on a 9-1-1 phone call saying “he’s in my house breaking all my s--- because I asked him to leave. He’s got a freaking gun breaking all my stuff right now.”
According to CNN reports, the phone call was made at 12:30 E.T in Seminole County, Florida. The county chief deputy, Dennis Lemma, states in a public announcement that when officers arrived to the scene, Scheibe was locked out of the house and waiting outside because Zimmerman placed furniture behind the door after she called police. Zimmerman cooperated with arrest and was placed in jail without bail.
Zimmerman is being charged with domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. Although these charges are classified as misdemeanors, they weigh heavily for him due to the infamous and controversial prior allegations of murdering unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2012, which would of landed him in prison for second-degree murder. However, he was acquitted after the jury found him innocent because they were convinced he acted on self-defense.
Monday’s incident is not the first time Zimmerman made headlines since the Trayvon Martin Case. ABC News reports that in July and September, he was pulled over for speeding and in one of those cases, informed police that he had a gun in his glove compartment. Despite his history, Zimmerman is allowed to have a weapon because his gun license was reinstated to him after the Martin trial.
