The nominations for the Writers Guild of America’s television awards were announced today, with many of the usual suspects earning recognition for their writing teams. Netflix’s House of Cards and Orange is the New Black were both recognized by the guild, as were Breaking Bad, Modern Family and 30 Rock.
Up for drama series are AMC’s Breaking Bad and Mad Men; Netflix’s House of Cards; and Showtime’s Homeland. CBS’ The Good Wife was the only network series nominated in the category.
This was Breaking Bad's final season and the show won the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy in February.
The networks did much better in comedy, with NBC’s 30 Rock and and ABC’s Modern Family all getting nods. Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and HBO’s Veep were also nominated.
House of Cards and Orange will compete against each other in the New Series category with FX’s The Americans and the Showtime series Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex.
The Long Form adapted category only has two nominees - National Geographic's Killing Kennedy and HBO’s Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight.
Three episodes of The Simpsons will go up against three episodes of Futurama in the animation category.
You can check out the full list of nominees at WGA.org. Nominees for the film categories aren’t announced until Jan. 3 and the awards are handed out on Feb. 1 at ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles.
