The Walking Dead continues to be the biggest scripted drama on all of television, as Sunday’s season four midseason finale drew over 12 million viewers. However, while that number would be amazing for any other cable show, it fell short of The Walking Dead’s previous records.

The explosive finale drew 12.1 million viewers, which was up 15 percent over the season three December finale, notes Entertainment Weekly. Unfortunately, it was down significantly from the 16.1 million viewers who tuned into the season premiere in October.

Breaking down the numbers by the demographics, the episode had 7.7 million viewers in the 18-49 demo, a huge 6.2 rating, reports The Hollywood Reporter. That makes it the biggest show on Sunday, aside from the NFL games.

The Walking Dead has averaged 13 million viewers so far this season, although the growth is slowing somewhat. The previous episode that centered on The Governor actually dropped from the week before, notes EW.

Still, big audiences are expected to turn out when The Walking Dead returns on Feb. 9 for the last eight episodes of the season.
