Teams learned at the start of the leg that they would be flying to Tokyo, Japan. Jay and Amy, Tim and Marie, and Nicole and Travis have decided to try and team up to get Leo and Jamal out of the race. The Afghanimals managed to get a connecting flight that would get them in 10 minutes earlier than the other teams, at 6:10 a.m., while the rest will get in 10 minutes later, at 6:20 a.m.

In Tokyo, teams headed to a temple of white cat statues, a symbol of good luck. Here, they encountered a detour.

In “Knock it Down,” teams would play a human bowling ball game, where each team member would become the bowling ball and had to score a strike before receiving their next clue. In “Call it Up “, teams would have to make a phone call at the bottom of a fish tank, then get out and share the message with their partner. All teams except for Nicole and Travis chose “Knock it Down.”
Jay and Amy switched to “Call it Up” when they realized their taxi driver had taken them to the location for the other detour. Tim and Marie chose to separate from the group after they got directions to the bowling, ending their alliance with the other teams.

At the next destination, Leo and Jamal encountered a speed bump, which required them to become apprentice zookeepers and help capture an “escaped rhino” from the zoo.

The other teams began the Roadblock, which required one member of each team to build a robot. To make the task more difficult for teams, the model was tiny, while the pieces for the one they would actually be constructing were large. Amy and Nicole decided to help one another out, while Leo and Marie both worked separately.

Despite arriving last, Tim and Marie finished the task first, and headed off to find a roaming vending machine in Tokyo’s hustling Shibuya Scramble Crossing. After Amy consulted the model one more time, she realized where they both went wrong, fixed hers, and got the clue. She and Jay stayed behind to try and help Nicole and Travis again, something they have done before.
After finding the vending machine, teams had to make their way to the Konno Hachimangu Shrine, the pit stop. Tim and Marie checked in first, guaranteeing not only their place in the final leg, but a trip for two to Aruba. Jay and Amy checked in second.

The battle for third fell to Travis and Nicole and Leo and Jamal, who followed neck-in-neck to the shrine. By a mere few seconds, Nicole and Travis edged past the Afghanimals, taking third place and the last spot in the finals. The Afghanimals were eliminated, just one leg shy of the million dollar leg.
