So many plot lines coming together in this episode, which means we really just have no idea what this season is heading for -- in a good way of course!
We watched Fiona (Jessica Lange) battle with death, and as she tells Axeman (Danny Huston) early on "I'm going to stay alive to spite all of them" it turns out her Coven actually needs her... even though they tried to kill her!
The visual effects of Fiona struggling through her cancer were stellar, as was the always incredible performance by none other than Emmy winner Jessica Lange. We saw her losing her hair, painfully throwing up multiple times, and pretty much saw her at her weakest point when she was literally on her death bed.
But who better to convince Fifi to stay alive other than Spalding's (Denis O'Hare) spirit?! Yeah, that's right, Spalding is now one of the probably many ghosts living inside the Academy, and after Fiona swallowed a bunch of pills to kill herself as was forced by Madison (Emma Roberts) and Myrtle (Frances Conroy), Spalding helped cure her almost instantly.
Something happened in tonight's episode where I felt sorry for Fiona and didn't want to see her go quite yet. When she was talking about how she found love and was almost pathetic about it, it really made me feel for her as a struggling Supreme. And I'm so happy she's back to her Supreme ways, it's about time she regained that power!
But poor Nan (Jamie Brewer).... she gets upset that the girls don't think she could be the next Supreme and runs over to see cute neighbor boy, whose mother is shot dead in an instant by none other than creepy Hank (Josh Hamilton). Was he trying to kill Nan in the process? We know he's a professional witch hunter working for Marie (Angela Bassett), but why he went after Nan, neighbor boy, and his mother was a bit of a mystery. Perhaps he was trying to send the Coven a message -- or even Delia (Sarah Paulson)!
But Hank can't fool Delia! She picked up one of the silver bullets and instantly knew the bullet was blessed, meaning he is a witch hunter. Now if only she knew it was her husband himself who's trying to kill her and her Coven! Delia and Fiona have a tender moment together when Delia says she's glad Fiona is alive because she needs her more than ever, now that they've got witch hunters after them.
After the tender moment, the doorbell rings and a mysterious package shows up. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the box to blow up in Fiona's face -- wouldn't that be an ironic twist? They kill Fiona just after Delia had a sweet moment with her and said she needed her? But no, instead it was much worse...Madame LaLaurie's head sliced off gasping "help!" Yikes.
It really is war.
In other news, is Misty (Lily Rabe) the new Supreme? Myrtle sure seems to think so, but after trying to resurrect neighbor boy's mom, she passed out right in front of Fiona.
Also, Kyle (Evan Peters) told Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) that he loved her and Zoe said it back. How cute! Well, except Madison totally overheard and doesn't seem too happy. Maybe that's why they say friends should never share a boy because it never works out.
But we have to wait another week to continue the love triangle, stopping the witch hunter, and of course, uncovering the next Supreme. In the meantime, here's the trailer for episode 9:
