Ani DiFranco has decided not to hold a retreat after fans were not at all happy with the location being a former slave plantation located outside of New Orleans.

The Righteous Retreat, put together by DiFranco's label, Righteous Babe Records, was hailed as a four day event as a creativity workshop. Unfortunately, The Wall Street Journal reports, the location chosen was at the Nottoway Plantation and Resort.

After fans started complaining that she would be involved in an event that would take place at a former plantation, the singer wrote on her website that she would not be attending after all.

She wrote on her blog, "i have heard you: all who have voiced opposition to my conducting a writing and performing seminar at the nottoway plantation. i have decided to cancel the retreat."

According to Rolling Stone, her blog post didn't exactly win her any fans back as she often sounded defensive about her choice in location.

She wrote that "when i found out it was to be held at a resort on a former plantation, I thought to myself, 'whoa,' but did not imagine or understand that the setting of a plantation would trigger such collective outrage or result in so much high velocity bitterness."
