Lifetime is developing a TV movie based off of Brian Stelter's book Top of the Morning about morning television.
Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are stepping in to be executive producers for the telepic through Diga Vision, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No writers has been chosen yet to pen the script and no cast selected.
Gateley sad, "We were looking at the success of Vikings and The Bible and knowing that Nancy Dubuc had taken over Lifetime not that long ago, we thought what could be their big factual movie that's big in pop culture right now."
TheWrap reports that Top of the Morning is about how NBC's Today has spent nearly two decades with better ratings than ABC's Good Morning America. Stelter had access to both shows while he was documenting for the book as well as being there as GMA began improving in the ratings. He was given access to both show's control room over a two-year span.
Stelter was also able to interview anchors from both programs, with the exception of Matt Lauer and Ann Curry.
When the book was published in April, it received fairly negative reviews, especially from Stelter's own newspaper, the New York Times.
