Carrie Underwood has been receiving a large amount of backlash from her performance as Maria in the live TV airing of The Sound of Music. The country superstar took to her Twitter account to slam critics.
Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus. They will be in my prayers tonight... 1 Peter 2:1-25

This tweet comes after the film's original star, Kym Karath, called out Underwood for her acting abilities, US Magazine reported.
Mystified & disappointed so far by SOM special. So far only happy with Stephen Moyer.

Must admit some scenes are actually painful to watch .

Most of the negative comments on Twitter surrounding Underwood was in regards to her acting chops, not to her as a vocalist. The LA Times reviewed Underwood's performance during the show, saying, "As a stage actress, there was no way to regard her as anything but an amateur -- good enough, certainly, to convey the meaning of her lines, and sometimes better than that, but lacking weight and substance and the shadings she can bring to a song."
The Sound of Music pulled in over 18.47 million viewers for NBC, CNN added. The special was NBC's best average since the drama, "ER" went off the air in 2009.
