Rihanna sported a unique hairstyle when she accepted her Icon Award at the American Music Awards last week - in that, it wasn't unique at all.
Her hair was wrapped around her head and set in place with bobby pins in a casual style called a doobie. According to USA Today, the doobie is usually only worn after a salon visit or to bed at night - and is not intended for a night out.
So why did Rihanna show up with the style at the AMA awards? Her hairstylist, Urusla Stephen claims that it was completely the "S & M" singer's idea. "It was actually Rihanna's idea," Stephen told Elle magazine. "She had her mind made up! Honestly, I was a little hesitant, but I knew she could pull it off, so I was all for it."
And pull it off she did, with some diamond embellishments, of course.
The celebrity hairstylist continued, "I knew it would get a reaction, but I wasn't sure if it would be positive or negative. A doobie on the red carpet has never been done before, so I knew it could have gone either way."
Many fans took to Twitter with posts of approval and praise of Rihanna's hair style that many people would only wear to bed or around the house.
