Chinese director Zhan Yimou is facing the likelihood that he will be fined $1.3 million for having three children, which breaks China's one-child policy.
Yimou and his wife, Chen Ting, have two sons and a daughter, reports Variety. They had all three several years before they got married a couple years ago.
It is not believed that the House of Flying Daggers would fight the fine, but would instead accept it.
According to The Guardian, the director is willing to publicly apologize for flouting the rule, noting the reason they had more children was due to their parents.
"My father told me prior to his death that he hoped I could have a son to continue the family line and my mother also believed that with more children, they could have more companions."
The Chinese public has been angered over recent one-child policy breakers who were in the government or are celebrities. Yimou's case didn't help as it was believed that he likely has as many as seven children between two marriages.
The government did announce earlier in the year it would be relaxing the policy slightly under certain conditions.
Variety notes that the fine is much lower than what he could have been found liable, with numbers reaching to well over $10 million in fines.
