Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday in Manhattan.
Voting for the trophy wasn't even close with Winston winning with 1,501 points over his closest competitor, Alabama's A J McCarron. Despite only just starting to move away from a sexual assault investigation, Winston had 668 first place votes, reports The New York Times.
Throughout time with reporters during the event, the college quarterback was flanked by both his lawyer and Florida State officials, who scolded anyone who tried to step away from football and breach the subject of his out of school legal troubles. "Next question. Only football," Florida State official Kerwin Lonzo would yell.
According to CNN, Winston was just ecstatic to win the award. "It's a blessing. I don't even know what's going on right now, honestly. I'm just so happy. I'm overwhelmed."
On the season, Winston threw for over 3,800 yards and connected with his receivers for 38 touchdown passes. He is also only the second redshirt freshman to win the award, right on the heels of first winner, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.
The other candidates for the Heisman Trophy were McCarron, Manziel, Auburn University's Tre Mason, Boston College's Andre Williams and Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois University.
