Seven-time Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher is in a coma following a skiing accident in the French Alps.
According to the Associated Press, doctors treating Schumacher refused to predict an outcome for him only saying that they were taking his critical head injury "hour by hour."
"We cannot predict the future for Michael Schumacher," said chief anesthesiologist Jean-Francois Payen, who is in charge of Grenoble University Hospital's intensive-care unit.
"He is in a critical state in terms of cerebral resuscitation," he added. "We are working hour by hour."
The retired racing driver was skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel on Sunday when he fell down a slope and hit his head on a rock. He was wearing a helmet when he hit his head. Doctors believe he would not have survived the accident if he was not wearing one.
The 44-year-old German is the most successful driver in Formula One history. He has driven for Italy’s Benetton and Ferrari teams during his career, the Daily Beast notes.
Tributes have been trending on Twitter wishing Schumacher a speedy recovery.
