At the apartment, Sabrina gave Patrick his gift and explained she was taking Felix's advice to not jump to conclusions since he hadn't made his decision yet. He replied that he didn't realize she'd be alone and admitted it was why he was there. Sabrina then said that she knew he needed time and that she made a vow to stick with him. He wanted her to remember he also made a vow to stick with her too but it wouldn't take away the hurt. She then asked him if he was going back to Robin and he confirmed that he was. He then told her that he loved her and all she had done for him and Emma but Robin was his wife and the mother of his child. She asked him not to keep saying he was sorry. He replied that he didn't know what else to do to make it okay and hoped she could forgive him someday. Sabrina then said it was time for them to say goodbye. They hugged and she gave him the rings back.
At home, Robin hugged Robert who was dressed as Santa. He saw she wasn’t in the holiday spirit. She then told him that she was giving Patrick time. Emma knew that Santa was Robert and opened his present of a didgeridoo. He taught her how to use it while Duke texted Sonny that Anna was on her way to the warehouse since she was alerted to the shooting. Later, Patrick arrived after everyone had left to say he was where he belonged for good. He then told her, “If you'll have me, I want you back.” She joyfully replied, "Of course I will."
Carlos was holding TJ hostage when Julian and Morgan arrived at the warehouse. Julian wouldn't leave without Carlos and shot first. TJ scrambled out of the way while Carlos knocked out Max. Shawn covered TJ after Sonny's warning before he shot Carlos. Carlos escaped out the back and Shawn got TJ out at Sonny's request. Julian ran out of bullets and yelled to Morgan to shoot Sonny as they faced-off. Sonny said he wouldn't point a gun at his son and warned Morgan that he wouldn't be able to live with shooting his father. Then, Morgan got startled and shot Max when he came around the corner. He then dropped the gun and Sonny went to Max's side. Morgan then started screaming that he didn't mean it. Sonny asked him to prove it and to put pressure on Max's wound. Julian then yelled, "It's now or never, Morgan!" Morgan then ran off with Julian while Sonny called 911. Meanwhile, Max kept saying, "Morgan shot me." Later, Anna arrived and Sonny lied saying he shot Max by accident when she asked but Anna saw all of the shell casings and then read Sonny his rights.
Ava found Molly waiting for Morgan and Julian at the penthouse. Ava was angry that Julian dragged Morgan into this. Molly said she loved TJ and worried something would happen to him so Morgan and Julian went to look for him at Sonny’s warehouse. Ava asked Molly to trust her that everything would be okay. When Diane arrived, Ava said Molly was doing a story on her gallery for her high school paper. Diane then pulled Ava aside and asked why an NYPD detective would be contacting her about Ava. She replied that she had no idea but Diane believed it had to do with Franco's fraud and wanted them to have a united front. Ava promised not to say a thing if she was contacted. Then, Morgan and Julian came back as Diane rushed off after being alerted that Max had been shot. Molly left after Julian explained that TJ was okay. After she left, Ava told Julian how angry she was that blood was spilled when he told her that Sonny shot Carlos and Morgan admitted he shot Max. Ava then went to Morgan. He told her how Max had always taken care of him, “What if he dies because of me?” Julian wouldn't let him go to General Hospital. They suggested he call under a false name to check on Max.
Silas was ready to leave General Hospital with Sam when he was asked to stay for a patient. They found Rafe Jr. in the exam room with ice on his knuckles. He claimed he hit the wall after thinking his and Taylor's plan may have brought Molly and TJ closer together. Silas ignored two incoming restricted calls before being called to handle a gunshot wound. After he left, another call came in while Sam was talking to Rafe Jr. As they brought Max in a stretcher, Diane screamed that Silas would have to work around her when he arrived. A nurse refused to give Morgan information when he called.
Shawn confronted TJ at Kelly’s and he told him that he needed to know where TJ got his story about Carlos. Then, Molly arrived and hugged TJ. She told him how upset she was that Max had gotten shot and asked if anyone else had been. TJ replied, "They got Carlos." Shawn then thought it was time for Molly to go home but didn't want TJ to go because it wasn’t safe. TJ refused.
Back at Sabrina's, she was alone crying when Carlos arrived bleeding and needing her help.
Obrecht narrated how Christmas was a day to seek refuge from this cruel world with the people you love.
Robin woke up with Patrick and said, "It's not a dream." Patrick replied that he believed that nothing could ever tear them apart again. He then confirmed that he had broken things off with Sabrina. Robin then replied that she knew how Sabrina felt to lose him. Then, Emma came in playing her didgeridoo and announced, "Good day mates. Wake up, it's Christmas!" They then opened gifts. It was awkward for Robin when Emma received a koala she already had and opened up something she really wanted from Sabrina. Robin promised she'd be okay when Emma wanted to personally thank Sabrina later. After they open gifts of individual didgeridoos from Robert, Patrick gave Robin back her wedding ring.
Carlos watched Sabrina crying at the apartment and didn't think she looked good. She didn't think he looked good either and thought he was going to die. She threatened to call the cops because she was certain that something bad had happened. He warned her that if she did, Sonny would come there and finish the job. He then said that if she ever cared about him, she'd let him stay. He then realized that Patrick had gone back to Robin. Sabrina then yelled that he should just say 'I told you so' already. He replied that he didn't care about winning, only that she'd get hurt. He held her as she confessed she still loved Patrick.
Outside the Quartermaines, Ava left Morgan a voicemail, hoping he wasn’t at the hospital. Inside, AJ opened Michael and Kiki's gift unenthusiastically. Then, Kiki answered the door while AJ expressed to Michael that he wasn’t thrilled with being acquitted on “reasonable doubt” because that didn’t mean that he didn't kill Connie. Michael thought maybe he didn't. At the door, Ava wished Kiki a Merry Christmas and busted in when she wasn’t invited. Kiki then screamed at Ava for turning Morgan into a killer. Ava wondered what meant. Kiki replied that she was there at the pier when Morgan hit Michael and walked away to let him drown, but now thought her mother was talking about something else. Michael then pulled Kiki away to go to the hospital to go see Max. Ava then joined AJ in the living room and congratulated him on his acquittal. She further exacerbated his acidic mood by telling him to celebrate for getting away with murder. He yelled for her to leave and downed the drink she left at the bar after she was gone.
Olivia asked Morgan what he was doing outside Max's room at General Hospital. He told her that he cared about Max but turned down the invite to visit Max with her. Inside, Diane thought Olivia should ask Sonny what happened. Milo thought it was strange that Sonny shot Max too. Alone with Diane, Milo cried and blamed himself for not having Max's back. Diane assured him that he wasn’t to blame. Before leaving, Olivia explained to Morgan that Sonny was being held at the PCPD for shooting Max. Morgan then said he was happy to see Michael when he arrived with Kiki. Michael asked for a minute and then asked Morgan what really happened since he'd bet his life Sonny didn't shoot Max. Then, Kiki called Michael into Max's room.
At their apartment, Dante gave Lulu an anniversary gift. She apologized for forgetting she forgot and said that two years ago things seemed hopeful for them. Dante replied that he wished he could have done things different but promised they’d get through this. She half-heartedly agreed and they kissed. He then left to question Sonny. Nikolas arrived later with Britt and Ben. Lulu wished Ben a Merry Christmas. Nikolas was sorry that the embryos were destroyed and Britt announced that she and Dante can still be parents.
In lockup at the PCPD, Obrecht warned Sonny that a caged animal that paced was about to lose their mind. Sonny replied, "I'll take that under advisement." She then asked what he was in for but he ignored her. Obrecht admitted to knowing who he was, though he claimed he was just a coffee importer. She then told him how impressed she was over how long he had held onto his territory and realized he was there by choice to take someone else's place. He warned if she really thought he was a mob kingpin she should shut up because she was annoying him. Yet, Obrecht continued and added that she'd only put herself behind bars for her children, “How about you?” Then, Dante arrived and tells Obrecht to sit down and shut up. He then asked Sonny what was really going on. Sonny was vague and Dante asked, "Was it Morgan?" before Sonny could answer, Olivia interrupted them and Dante rushed off to find Morgan. Olivia stayed and told Sonny that she thought whatever had happened may be just what Morgan needed. She left with Sonny when they took him to interrogation. Once she was alone, Obrecht sang “Oh Tannenbaum.”
Dante found Morgan outside of Max's room. He told him that wanted the truth and asked, "Are you the one who shot Max?" Morgan claimed Sonny was losing it again and he shouldn't be blamed for his mistakes. Dante then told Morgan that he was more like Sonny than he'd ever admit. Ava then joined Morgan at the hospital later and hugged him.
Back at Lulu and Dante’s, Britt watched Dante and Lulu fuss over Ben and felt guilty.
At GH, Silas gave Sam great news about Danny's health. She wanted to celebrate and he thought New Year's Eve would be perfect. Sam wasn’t certain since he'd had so many interruptions but he talked into it before ignoring a call. After, Silas met CPO Hicks in the exam room. He told Silas that he’d been keeping the secret that he might be sick and dying from his wife. Silas replied that he understood and ignored another call. Hicks' results came in and they showed he was cancer-free. Hicks was relieved and admitted that lying to his wife was worse than thinking he had cancer and couldn't wait to get home and tell her the truth.
Sabrina quickly hid evidence of Carlos at the apartment before Felix came in. He hugged her when he learned Patrick had made his decision and was upset that she was feeling sorry for him after he dumped her on Christmas Eve. Sabrina didn't think it would been any better on Christmas. Felix was eager to take her to the spa until he found Carlos in his bed. Sabrina explained that it was complicated and that she didn't have sex with him. Then, Felix got upset when he learned that she was aiding and abetting a fugitive. She stopped him from calling the police but he was worried about the repercussions. She then thought she was going to be sick and rushed off to the bathroom. After, she couldn't figure out what made her sick and Felix suggested that she could be pregnant.
At home, Robin announced Emma was staying at a friend's house while Patrick removed Christmas decorations. Then, Maxie called and said that she needed Robin to come over right away for an emergency. Sam stopped by after Robin left and shared Danny's good news. She wasn’t surprised that Patrick had come home to Robin. She added that his dream came true but she can't think like that anymore about Jason since there was only one miracle to go around. Patrick then asked her about Silas and was curious when Sam admitted they hadn't “closed the deal yet.” She then told him how Ava taunted her that Silas had something to hide. Patrick then confessed that Ava had told him the truth that Robin was alive and added that he just wanted her to be happy. She agreed that she was. He then helped get Danny ready to leave and admitted to being disappointed when he found out he wasn't having another child. Sam thought he could broach the subject with Robin now.
Mac and Felicia arrived at Maxie's and asked what was wrong. She wanted to wait for Robin and told them to relax, but Felicia needed to know so Maxie said, "I'm leaving Port Charles." Robin got there and found the decision sudden. Maxie then explained that she wanted to go on an Eat, Pray, Love journey for a few months to find herself. Mac was confused but she told him that she’d lost so much she needed to go someplace where everything was unfamiliar and she was leaving before midnight because of the previous New Year's Eve miscarriage. Mac thought she'd learned enough that she shouldn't have to cut herself off from her family. Robin translated that they all hoped she could find herself a little closer to home. Maxie then told them that It would mean a lot if she had their blessing. Robin gave hers, knowing Maxie would be okay. They hugged and Robin left. Maxie then said she had one more thing to do before she left and left Mac and Felicia to gather her things.
At Lulu and Dante’s, Lulu announced she wanted to make another baby when Dante woke up. Dante was surprised that Britt said they could start the whole process over again. Moving forward was scary but Lulu said she knew it would be their last and only chance. He agreed they could do this and they make love. Later, Dante confessed that he couldn't wait to hold a baby and to see Lulu happy. She was feeling hopeful and glad to be looking forward instead of back. He was then called to work and Lulu called Britt.
Nikolas woke up at Wyndemere with Britt at his side and asked her how she felt about making their “us” official since everything felt temporary to him and he'd like to make it permanent. He wanted Britt and Ben to make Wyndemere their permanent home. She confessed her worries about his relationship with Lulu if she officially moved in but hopes she could make things right for Dante and Lulu. Nikolas didn't think there would be an issue but Britt still turned him down because she said she didn't deserve him. Then, Lulu called, asking Britt to be her doctor again. Britt agreed and promised she'd get her baby this time. Nikolas then told her that she didn't have to worry about Lulu and asked her to stay again. She finally agreed to make it official.
Sam returns to General Hospital at Silas' request. He needs to tell her something.
Robin returned home and Patrick asked how she felt about having another baby.
Lulu answered a knock at the door and saw Maxie.
