George Clooney has dated several beautiful women throughout his Hollywood career, but he admitted in a new interview that he has yet to find the one, which explains why he’s still a bachelor.
Clooney is on the cover of W Magazine’s annual art issue, wearing a polka dot suit in front of a polka dot background in the accompanying photoshoot. While most of the interview touches on his new film, The Monuments Men, he did talk about one aspect of his personal life.
USA Today notes that Clooney was asked if he’d met the love of his life yet. “I haven't met her yet,” the Oscar winner replied.
Clooney has some very high standards, admitting that his first cinematic crushes were the beauties of 1950s Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.
“When I was a kid, I was in love with Audrey Hepburn. I watched Roman Holiday when I was 11, and I thought she was as elegant as anything I’d ever seen. And I fell madly in love with her,” Clooney said. “I also always loved Grace Kelly. I mean, when she comes out of the water in To Catch a Thief, I thought, That’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Clooney explained why he and producing partner Grant Heslov decided to do The Monuments Men, which is based on Robert M. Edsel’s book and centers on a group of art experts trying to save art from the Nazis. Heslov and Clooney thought it was be the perfect topic for a less cynical film, after acclaimed movies like Michael Clayton and Ben Affleck’s Argo.
“We tend to like cynical films because we find them more interesting,” Clooney explained. “But we wanted to do a movie where the good guys win and you’re fighting the ultimate bad guy — Hitler. This was a story that nobody had heard about.”
The Monuments Men hits theaters on Feb. 7.
