Glee star Jane Lynch is quickly proving to be an awards show favorite. The actress has been picked to host the 2014 Directors Guild of America Awards in January.
Lynch will host the 66th annual edition of the event on Jan. 25 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. It will be her first time hosting the event and she will be the first woman to do so as well.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jane Lynch as host of the DGA Awards for the very first time,” DGA President Paris Barclay said in a statement. “I have known Jane for years, and have envied her quick wit – and her extraordinary height. She always makes the job of directing her a joy, and I look forward to her helping us honor the year’s best in film and television.”
Lynch previously hosted the Emmys in 2011. She has won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role on Glee as Sue Sylvester. She also appeared on Broadway this past summer in the new production of Annie. Last month, NBC ordered more episodes of Hollywood Game Night, which she hosts.
The film DGA nominations are announced on Jan. 7, while the TV and commercial nominations come out on Jan. 9. The guild also gives awards for best directors of documentaries and nominations for those awards are announced on Jan. 13.
The DGA Awards are typically a good predictor for the Best Director Oscar, but last year was an anomaly. Last year, Ben Affleck won for Argo, although he wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar in the category. Life of Pi’s Ang Lee, who won the Oscar, and Lincoln’s Steven Spielberg were the only two DGA nominees also nominated for the Oscar.
