The Associated Press has named their 2013 Entertainer of the Year. Jennifer Lawrence beat out Miley Cyrus by one vote for the title.

U.S. editors and news director submitted 70 votes on who they found to be the most influential entertainer of the year.

Lawrence won 15 votes just one over Cyrus’s 14. Netflix came in at a close third with 13 votes for its new way of TV screening.

Lawrence started off her year with an Academy Award and ended it with her performance in American Hustle that earned nominations in the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild. She is loved by millions of fans for her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise.

She also made headlines this year when she cut off her long locks to sport a pixie cut which Lawrence said she found odd when talking to Jon Stewart earlier this year.

News editor Kristi Runyan, who voted for Lawrence said, “The 23-year-old actress is not only talented and beautiful, but comes off as incredibly intelligent, genuine, funny and well-spoken in her public appearances and interviews. It’s refreshing to see a young woman not squandering her talent and success by succumbing to the temptations that many do in Hollywood and who actively speaks about the ridiculous behavior of some of her peers.”

The remaining top 5 in the AP’s race for Entertainer of the Year, Breaking Bad took fourth place and fifth place was Justin Timberlake who has released two albums this year.
