Director John Singleton and music mogul Russell Simmons are reportedly working together on a new HBO drama set in a Miami nightclub.

Club Life: Miami will have the South Beach nightlife as its background and the main character is a former criminal who hopes to turn his life around. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Singleton has signed to write the pilot. Simmons and Singleton will also executive produce the project, which is covered under Simmons’ overall deal with HBO.

Simmons is also working on another project at HBO with 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen. That project centers on an African-American man from New York trying to break into high society, but his questionable past may get in the way.

Singleton is best known for directing the Oscar nominated film Boyz N The Hood and also directed Shaft, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers. He also directed an episode of ESPN’s 30 For 30 and his most recent film is the Taylor Lautner thriller Abduction.
