Actor Peter O'Toole died on Saturday at 81-years-old.
The acclaimed actor’s agent, Steve Kenis, said that he passed away at the Wellington hospital in London following a long illness, according to Reuters.
"Peter O'Toole's family announced today that very sadly Peter died yesterday, peacefully in hospital. He had been ill for some time," Kenis said in a statement.
O’Toole rose to fame after his role in the 1962 blockbuster movie Lawrence of Arabia, and he also had large roles in a variety of other productions. He portrayed King Henry II in both Becket and The Lion in Winter, in which he starred alongside Katharine Hepburn, People magazine reported.
In the 1980s, after being misdiagnosed with blood cancer, ending a 20-year marriage to Welsh actress Sian Phillips and the death of his father, O’Toole landed major roles in two comeback movies, The Stunt Man and My Favorite Year.
O'Toole is survived by his two daughters with Phillips, actress Kate O'Toole and Patricia O'Toole, in addition to his son with model Karen Brown, actor Lorcan Patrick O'Toole.
