The Los Angeles Natural History Museum has removed a plague honoring the anonymous donor who donated money for the museum’s new nature lab. The plague had a reference to God which has angered some scientists.
The story was first reported by Southern California public radio station 89.3 KPCC. The radio station is reporting that the plague read, The nature lab is a gift to Los Angeles to celebrate all of God’s creatures… While the quote does not bring up any reference to the controversy of evolution, it is enough to anger the scientific community. One of the most outspoken in the scientific community is Professor Jerry Coyne of the University of Chicago. In his blog href=https://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2013/12/04/religious-accomodationism-in-a-public-museum/>Why Evolution is True Coyne accused The LA Natural History Museum of bowing down to religion in order to get funding; and that God has no place in science.
In response to all the media attention, (a href=http://thecelebritycafe.com/search/google?cx=015666119613146623980%3Aaffjretvu_w&cof=FORID%3A11&query=natural+history+museum+in+LA+removes+reference+to+God&op=Search&safe=medium&form_build_id=form-c1338a06a34b878de313460c162b903e&form_token=6ab77e00440f0dab16e9bf622b13ad8a&form_id=google_cse_results_searchbox_form&siteurl=http%3A%2F%2Fthecelebritycafe.com%2Fuser%2F31420%2Fedit>The LA Natural History Museum released a statement about their decision. In the release the museum says that it believes in the importance of evolution being in the schools and scientific community. They then invited people of all faiths to come to the museum and explore the science of the natural world.
