Phil Robertson might’ve been suspended by A&E, the network that airs his family reality show Duck Dynasty for his remarks on gay people, but the governor of his state of Louisiana is now coming to his defense.
Gov. Bobby Jindal compared Robertson’s suspension to Miley Cyrus’ eyebrow raising antics, saying it’s a sad day when she gets “a laugh” for expressing who she is and Robertson gets reprimanded.
“I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive,” he said in a statement, NBC reports. “But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”
Jindal isn’t the only politician to rally in support of Robertson. Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, took to her Facebook page to defend him after his suspension was announced.
“Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us,” she wrote.
Jindal also called the Robertson family “great citizens” in his statement.
