No. 14 Louisville dismissed junior forward Chane Behanan from the team for violating school policy on Monday.
Cardinals coach Rick Pitino didn’t reveal what rule Behanan has violated. Behanan hasn’t been kicked out of school, but he could transfer or hire a trainer and try to play professionally. This isn’t the first time that Behanan has been in trouble. On October 17 he was suspended indefinitely after a violation that wasn’t revealed. He was reinstated on November 11.
Behanan is a key member of the Cardinals. He was part of their national championship team last year and was named to the Final Four all-tournament team. This season he’s averaged 8.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and has a shooting percentage of 67 from the field, according to the Associated Press. In his time at Louisville, Behanan has averaged 9.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
''I want to apologize for letting down my family, teammates, coaches, (athletic director) Tom Jurich, this university and the Louisville fans,'' Behanan said in a statement released by Louisville.
To fill the void left by Behanan, Kevin Ware may get the redshirt despite the fact that he injured his right leg earlier this month. A player can get a medical redshirt if he plays in less than 30 percent of his team’s games according to NCAA rules, ESPN reports. Ware returned to the tam on November 15 after having surgery and has played in nine games so far.
In Saturday’s loss to Kentucky Behanan was scoreless and had seven rebounds.
