Miley Cyrus sat down for a chat with Barbara Walters after being chosen as one of her most fascinating people of the year. In Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013, Cyrus talks about her split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth and how she was afraid of being alone.

The Bangerz singer, who has had an incredible year of success, said learning how to be independent without being in a relationship was the most important feat she overcame this past year.

“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year," she explained, E! Online reports. "I don't ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself."

Although she admits she was in love with The Hunger Games star and loved “wearing a fat rock for a few years,” she said she’s now truly happy.
"I don't think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged," she said, adding her happiness now is “those moments of silence, when I'm just at my house, by myself."

Us Weekly notes Walters’ annual program airs on Wednesday, December 18.
