Miley Cyrus has had a busy year and capped it off with a new music video released today and she’s gearing up for performing on New Years’ Eve. Despite that, she had time for a new interview and responded to Joe Jonas’ New York magazine interview from earlier this month.
In the interview, Jonas said that Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato had introduced him to marijuana. While Lovato has since made strides to stay away from drugs, Cyrus has continued to embrace pot, even lighting a joint on stage last month.
“The first time I smoked weed was with Demi and Miley,” Jonas recalled. “I must have been 17 or 18. They kept saying, 'Try it! Try it!' so I gave it a shot, and it was alright. I don't even smoke weed that often anymore.”
Cyrus hadn’t responded to those comments until today, reports Rolling Stone. She spoke with The New York Times, and was asked about what Jonas said.
“If you want to smoke weed, you’re going to smoke weed,” the “Adore You” singer said. “There’s nothing that two little girls are going to get you to do that you don’t want to do. I thought maybe he was saying that like it was going to make him look badass.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus said that she doesn’t want to force drugs on younger fans. “There was a thing that Kurt Cobain said, something like, ‘There’s a special place in hell for people that glamorize drugs,’ and I never want to be that person that’s, like, talking to 16- and 17-year-olds and being like, ‘Smoke weed,’” she said. Cyrus added that she has a younger sister and she doesn’t want her to feel the need to smoke weed.
Cyrus will be performing on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve next week. She released a video for the Bangerz song “Adore You” earlier today.
