In July it was announced that Mark Burnett and Roma Downey had decide to work on a follow-up miniseries to the popular miniseries The Bible. NBC has now officially decided to move forward on the miniseries which will be released the spring of 2015.

The miniseries is titled A.D. and it will be a 12-hour long miniseries, Variety reported.

NBC has been eyeing this production since the first miniseries aired, explained Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC entertainment. “Last year when Mark Burnett was launching ‘The Bible’ on cable, I told him, without hesitation, that if he wanted to tell more of the story, we’d love to do it at NBC,” said Greenblatt.

Entertainment Weekly added that the first miniseries from Burnett aired on the History Channel and gave the network some of its highest ratings to date and this series eliminated almost all other competition.

Simon Block is set to write the new series A.D. but no director or cast has been announced.
