The Live+7 ratings for NBC's Dec. 5 broadcast of Carrie Underwood's The Sound of Music Live! have finally come in and add to an already strong Thursday night number.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, with DVR numbers added in, the live airing of the musical garnered a 5.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 21.837 million viewers.
That's up on the early numbers for Live! that first placed the show with 18.5 million viewers and a 4.6 in the demographic. The final numbers do provide something new for NBC, an excellent Thursday night. The network hasn't had ratings that high since Friends and Frasier were both on the air for the last time in 2004.
Due to the success of the live musical, NBC has already made it known that it is looking into sustaining that success with another similar programming event.
NBC Entertainment chairman spoke with THR and said, "We're looking for another show, a well-known title, something that people already know and love that can interest kids and adults and can be produced live."
Meanwhile the original Sound of Music was rebroadcast on ABC Sunday night and managed decent numbers against Sunday Night Football with 6.5 million viewers, Cinema Blend reports. That number is pretty good for a movie that came out in 1965.
