The Brooklyn Nets will be without forward Paul Pierce for two to four weeks due to a hand injury.
Pierce was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the third metacarpal of his right hand. The injury happened during the first half of Friday’s game against the Houston Rockets. Pierce’s injury is a big blow to the Nets, who have been plagued by injuries this season. All-Star center Brook Lopez just returned from an injury, and point guard Deron Williams (sprained left ankle) and reserves Andrei Kirilenko (back injury) and Jason Terry (knee injury) are all out at the moment, according to the Associated Press.
Pierce came to the Nets in a deal over the summer with the Boston Celtics. It hasn’t worked out like the Nets wanted to. Pierce, who was a 10-time All-Star with the Celtics, is averaging 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and2.8 assists per game in his first year with the Nets, according to USA Today. This season could be the worst season of Pierce’s 16 year career. His points average and shooting percentage of .368 would be the lowest ever for the number two scorer in Celtics history.
The Nets are currently 5-12, but just ahead of the New York Knicks for last place in the Atlantic Division. However they are only one and a half games out of first place. Now the Nets got to hope that they don’t have any more injuries and they get their injured players back soon.
