A snowball fight got out of control at the University of Oregon Friday and has prompted the school to suspend one of its players from the upcoming game with a possibility of more students being prosecuted.
The fight started as a simple game between players and the fans but quickly escalated with students involving innocent bystanders and blocking traffic according to Syracuse.com. One of the cars attacked by students belonged to professor Sherwin Simmons who was captured on video leaving his car and trying to talk to the students who instead backed away and continued to throw snowballs.
Another driver targeted by students was Kathryn Mayfair. “There were probably 100 to 200 students, a select few leading the charge. They stopped my vehicle, pelted it with snowballs packed pretty hard like iceballs," said Mayfair to KATU News.
The player suspended for his part in the fight was starting tight end Pharaoh Brown according to ABC News. Brown released a statement saying: “I was one of the many UO students involved in the snowball fight on Friday and my actions escalated to an inappropriate level and for that I sincerely apologize. We never should have engaged innocent people and I deeply regret my actions and will accept the consequences.”
The school is continuing to review the video and intends to find out all who were involved.
