Paul Rudd will star as Ant Man in the upcoming Marvel film. The announcement came early this morning that the Anchorman 2 star will be playing Dr Hank Pym. Pym is known in the comic book universe for inventing a formula which allows him to become the size of an ant.
BBC reported that the film would be released in July of 2015 and will be directed by British filmmaker Edgar Wright. Wright is known for his work on films such as, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Wright will also be working on the screenplay for the upcoming film.
Speculation started early on who would play this famous comic book role, the frontrunners included Rudd and Inception star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Early this week it was announced that Gordon-Levitt was connected to the upcoming Sandman project with D.C. comics.
Ant Man is part of the upcoming second installment of the Marvel universe which will lead into the next Avengers film. It is unclear if Ant Man will be seen in the upcoming sequel to Avengers which will be directed by Josh Whedon and is set to be released in 2015 as well, reported The LA Times.
