Police have arrested a man they believe stole a piece of the Porsche Carrera GT that Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker died in on Saturday. Another suspect is wanted as well and police are waiting for him to turn himself in.
Jameson Witty, 18, and his alleged accomplice stole a piece from the t-top roof of the wreckage while it was being towed away on Saturday night, police said. According to TMZ, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said that Witty and the other man took the piece while the tow-truck was sitting at a red light. The driver did see them, though, and was able to identify them for the police.
E! News reports that police then got a search warrant for Witty’s Tujunga, Calif. home, where they arrested him for stealing evidence from the scene. However, they discovered the t-roof panel at another home in the Canyon Country neighborhood of Los Angeles County.
Witty was booked and his bail set at $20,000. The 25-year-old second suspect is not in California at the moment, but E! reports that he is speaking with police and should be turning himself in shortly.
Walker’s autopsy was completed on Tuesday and the findings were announced Wednesday. The cause of death was listed as “combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries.” The driver, Roger Rodas, also died in the crash.
