Since the news circulated that Phil Robertson has been placed on an indefinite hiatus, petitions have begun springing up to demand A&E back down.
One petition, I Stand With Phil, has already garnered over 30,000 signatures since it was launched. According to The Huffington Post, the petition was started by the conservative group Faith Driven consumer, which is "an organization connecting Christian consumers with faith-compatible companies."
The petition asks that the Duck Dynasty patriarch be reinstated and says that suspending Robertson for his comments is "patently un-American" and "flies in the face of true tolerance and civility."
Another petition, this one on Change.org is called A&E: Bring Back Phil Robertson To Duck Dynasty. It currently has just under 4,000 signatures. The petition says, "He is being persecuted because of his beliefs ... He doesn't force his beliefs, (the Bible), on anyone. Freedom of speech works both way (sic)."
Earlier Thursday, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal defended Robertson's remarks in the GQ profile wondering how Miley Cyrus can get away with her actions, but Robertson gets punished for his.
