The pop-star sensation Katy Perry has just been named an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations Children's Fund, which was sparked by a recent trip to the penury stricken nation of Madagascar. The newfound philanthropist will focus on providing aid to children suffering from severe poverty, violence, abuse, and neglect.
Perry stated " I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help," according to Newsday .
"I am honored to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and [I am] committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds but want the same thing: a brighter future."
"It [the trip] changed my life. It really kind of reprioritized my thinking, and my whole approach on life," Perry told the Associated Press, according to Star Pulse .
"I was going through a transition in my life, where I felt like I had been suppressed and emotionally toyed with- and I went there [Madagascar]- and I was like, 'I have nothing to compare my situation to.' It made me feel very grateful, but also very aware."
Perry's work in impecunious nations will help fuel her creative fire for Prism , her newest album.
