The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd isn't too happy with TV executives who are willing to say in any way that online piracy might have helped their show.
At Variety's Q&A at the AMC holiday party she spoke out against piracy. "There's a mistaken belief by many of my peers that piracy is somehow good, that viewers will develop a habit to pay for it."
She continued, "I'm not sure they really understand other than anecdotal evidence that their ratings go up that the people who pirate are not then going to choose legal downloads or legal viewing in the future."
Though some might have suggested piracy isn't all bad, Hurd doesn't have any thoughts that it helps, noting that it isn't "something that we should encourage."
The executive producer also mentioned that she had to confront her own daughter about online downloading and made sure to put her foot down and end it then and there.
Hurd might not be all that happy with Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan who credited piracy with helping the show as new fans tuned in.
He wasn't overly supportive, just admitted that it helped the show for the most part. "I see that there are two sides to this coin," he said at the time in October.
