In an effort to save money, the rest of the season of Katie Couric's syndicated talk show will be aired mostly live.

Mostly live meaning that during the week four out of the five episodes will be produced live in order to keep the show on budget, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The fifth episode will then be taped on the fourth day for an hour of content only.

Sources were telling THR that this was something that was already going to happen before the show was canceled, and they said that taping often ran much longer than the allotted time, since Couric wanted as much content for broadcast as possible.

On Thursday it was announced that after only two seasons, Katie was canceled.

A statement jointly released by Couric and ABC insisted the move was something both sides wanted. "We've mutually agreed that there will not be a third season of the show." The statement continued, "We're very proud of everyone's contributions to making Katie the No. 1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013, and we look forward to the rest of the season."

THR notes that the show was one of the most expensive talk shows ever because of its large staff, in addition to often taping enough content to run for two hours.
