Singer Rihanna is said to have taken the starring role in an upcoming biopic about the life of jazz singer, dancer, and activist Josephine Baker.

As told by Daily Mail, the film of Josephine's life is coming on the heels of a play also about her life that debuted overseas this past summer, under the direction of Phyllida Law, who happens to be the mother of actress Emma Thompson.

The "Rude Boy" songstress has yet to comment on whether or not the rumors are true. However, Starpulse reported that Lance Reynolds, the producer for the film, said in a statement that Rihanna was the first pick for the role and that they feel that she will do an excellent job at portraying Baker's life on the big screen.

Although, there is much buzz and anticipation about the movie, fans of Baker cannot forget that this is not the first film made about her life. In 1991, Lynn Whitfield portrayed the Jazz icon in The Josephine Baker Story.

Do you think that RiRi could be a good Josephine?
