If former Transformer star Shia LaBeouf thinks this copying other writers' words is fun, cartoonist Daniel Clowes does not and is considering legal action. Meanwhile, it’s been discovered that he has been plagiarizing before.

Earlier this week, LaBeouf posted his 2012 short film HowardCantour.com on the web and within hours, the Internet discovered that its script was copied word-for-word from Justin M. Damiano, a 2007 comic by noted artist Clowes.

LaBeouf apologized in a string of tweets, first defending what he did. “Copying isn't particularly creative work. Being inspired by someone else's idea to produce something new and different IS creative work,” he wrote. He said he failed to credit his inspiration and apologized directly to Clowes.

But that wasn’t enough for Clowes’ long-time editor Eric Reynolds, who told BuzzFeed that he plans on taking legal action. “He clearly doesn’t get it, and that’s disturbing,” Reynolds said. “I’m not sure if it’s more disturbing that he plagiarized, or that he could rationalize it enough to think it was OK and that he might actually get away with it. Fame clearly breeds a false sense of security.”

Reynolds also told The AP that Clowes “is exploring his legal options.” He later called LaBeouf’s actions “so blatant and inexcusable that it was as baffling as it was appalling.”

BuzzFeed later discovered that LaBeouf has plagiarized before. The actor’s niche comic My F**king Party has words from a poem by late Charles Bukowski. Writer Josh Frakes told BuzzFeed that there was even more evidence, pointing to a comic called Slate N Mate, which appears to have passages from a novel by French writer Benoît Duteurtre.

As MTV News notes, there have also been claims that LaBeouf’s tweets are plagiarized occasionally. For example, the following tweet is very similar to Tiger Woods’ 2009 apology:

This tweet came from Kanye West’s apology for interrupting Taylor Swift at the 2009 VMAs.

At this point, LaBeouf is either trying to be funny with the Internet or just looking for trouble.
