Super Bowl ads for the first ever cold-weather edition of the NFL championship game have already sold out, Fox said today. The average cost for a commercial during the game is $4 million.
Fox said that there were 43 advertisers who signed up for 30-second to two-minute commercials during the game, which is typically the most-watched broadcast every year in the U.S. The companies include Super Bowl regulars like Anheuser-Busch InBev, Butterfinger, Chevrolet, Doritos, GoDaddy.com, Jaguar, Mars, Oikos and PepsiCo Beverages.
“The demand for in-game advertising time for Super Bowl XLVIII is actually greater than the supply, which is a terrific problem for us to have,” Neil Mulcahy, executive vice president of FOX Sports Sales, said in a statement, reports TheWrap.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the average cost for a commercial was $4 million, with some going for a record-breaking $4.5 million. Mulcahy attributed the record numbers to the fact that the game is being held in the New York region for the first time. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, home to the Giants and Jets.
CBS aired last year’s game and ads averaged a then-record $3.7 million to $3.8 million each.
Super Bowl XLVIII will be played on Feb. 2 with Bruno Mars as the halftime act.
